Temperatures may have been dropping outside, but it was heating up inside the Reggie Lewis Track center on Friday night. Rivals Hopkinton and Holliston squared off in their opening night of Winter Track season.
The teams traded wins through 7 grueling events. The meet would come down to the final event, the 4×400. Hopkinton fielded Junior Russell Perryman, and Seniors Owen Fitzpatrick, Ruben Noroian, and Luke Boothroyd at the anchor.
As the starting gun fired, Perryman got off to a strong start, but was slightly behind his Holliston opponent as he made the first handoff to teammate Fitzpatrick.

The second Holliston runner made a push to gain separation, but Fitzpatrick had other plans. As the runners rounded the curve for the second handoff Fitzpatrick held a slight lead.

Ruben Noroian held the lead on the third leg, putting team anchor Luke Boothroyd in the driver’s seat.

The agony was apparent on Boothroyd’s face as he made the final push.

A slight smile came across Boothroyd’s face as he crossed the finish line to the congratulations of his team. The team won the event with a time of 3:46.53, edging Holliston by 0.03 seconds.
The victory pushed the Hopkinton boys to a final score of 52-43.
