The Hopkinton boys soccer team advanced to the State Finals on Tuesday night with a dramatic 4-3 win over Bedford. Midfielder Aryan Samaga gave the Hillers a 1-0 lead 20 minutes in when he headed in a perfectly thrown ball from senior captain Declan Mick. In the second half forward Sean Golembiewski scored a pair of goals, putting Hopkinton up 3-0.
The Hillers seemed to be cruising toward an easy victory, but third-seeded Bedford had other plans. As the snow began to fall, the Buccaneers’ forward Spencer Goss scored a pair of goals to make the match 3-2. A few minutes later Hopkinton midfielder Pete DiMichele took a long-distance shot that sailed perfectly into the upper left corner of the goal, giving the boys a 4-2 lead. Bedford continued to battle, scoring once more with less than two minutes remaining, but the Hillers hung on as time expired.
Hopkinton next faces either Oliver Ames or Plymouth North, who play Wednesday night. The State finals are set for Saturday with the location and time TBA.
