Hopkinton: Baypath Humane Society has surpassed $5M toward its $6.5M goal for the “Building Baypath’s Future” campaign.
The new facility will be built on a five-acre parcel through a 50-year lease with the town. Baypath is entering the groundbreaking phase, with construction planned to start later this year and take twelve months. This brings its vision of a modern animal adoption, care, and education center closer to reality.
Hopkinton’s Zoning Board of Appeals granted a special permit to use the 66 Fruit Street location as an animal shelter. This unanimous decision adds momentum to the project.

With the permit secured, Baypath will break ground by late summer.
Elizabeth Jefferis, Executive Director of Baypath Humane Society, comments:
- This new shelter is becoming a reality, thanks to our supporters.
- We’ve made great progress, but we’re not done yet. Every dollar helps create a safe haven where animals receive care and the second chances they deserve.
The new shelter will be a vital resource in Massachusetts, supporting animals in crisis. For nearly 50 years, Baypath has cared for over 1,000 dogs and cats annually, offering essential services like foster programs.

The new facility will include:
- Enhanced housing to meet modern animal welfare standards
- A dedicated health & wellness suite to improve medical care on-site
- Education and training areas to support adopters, volunteers, and the community
- Welcoming spaces for adoption counseling and rehoming support
Baypath’s Board President Courtney McFarland notes, “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. We’re moving forward, but we need community support.”
