Center School has sat vacant for eight years.
The building is deteriorating. The property is valuable. Hopkinton can change that now.
The Town and the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) have formed a partnership. Together, they plan to transform Center School into a vibrant community space. It will serve families, support local programs, and enhance downtown Hopkinton.
What Phase One Does
Phase One prepares the site for the future. It includes three key actions:
- Removing the old rear buildings
- Remediating hazardous materials
- Protecting the historic 1928 building that will anchor future development
How It’s Funded
Phase One will use approximately $2.4 million in Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds. This money has already been collected. It is specifically designated for projects like this one. Using these funds will not raise taxes.
Why It Matters
This is a practical investment for Hopkinton. It gives the Town control over the future of the Center School property. It preserves a historic landmark. And it advances cultural enrichment for families in our community.

This is very good news! So many physical changes have been done to the center of our town that are unattractive for the sweet place it once was, it’s great to know the Center School building will remain as a reminder for future generations to appreciate how an old New England town once looked.
