The Hopkinton Public Library (HPL) opened registration today for the 2025 Winter Reading Marathon, which begins on Monday, February, 17.
Residents of all ages can sign up at the Hopkinton Public Library (13 Main St.) throughout the four-week event. From February 16 to March 15, readers can earn up to five prize tickets by recording their reading.
According to HPL Reference and Technology Supervisor Danielle Cook, participants can read anything, not just books. They can choose anything from newspaper and magazine articles to audiobooks.
“For this event, we’re not picky about reading. We know that reading can be a struggle for folks. We try to make this as easy as possible,” said Cook. “It doesn’t matter how much you read or what you read, we just want you to read.”
HPL Assistant Director Jak Miller says the reading marathon helps residents of all ages practice reading and form a habit. Similar to HPL’s summer events, it pays tribute to the Boston Marathon, which starts in Hopkinton.
The goal of the reading event is for reading to become part of your life, said Miller. “This is part of our community fabric, bringing it into Hopkinton homes.”
“Reading is for everyone,” Cook said. “Everyone may not read the same way. “Whether it’s a car manual or a fashion magazine, you’re learning about something that interests you.”
