Former Deputy Police Chief in Hopkinton found guilty of raping a student while he was a school resource officer (SRO).
HOPKINTON – Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced today that a Middlesex Jury has convicted former Hopkinton Deputy Chief of Police, John “Jay” Porter, of three charges of Rape of a Child. The assault on the student occurred while he was assigned as a school resource officer in the Town of Hopkinton school system.
The incidents occurred in 2004 and 2005 when the victim was a 15-year-old student. During this period, Porter assaulted the victim on multiple occasions off school property.
“The defendant in this case abused his position of power to take advantage of and manipulate a child to gain her trust before sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions,” said District Attorney Marian Ryan.
During her ninth and tenth grades at Hopkinton High School, the victim often sought support from the School Resource Officer, John Porter. That relationship changed in the tenth grade, evolving from trust between adult and student to a flirtatious and sexual dynamic.
On one occasion, the victim was excused early from school. Officer Porter volunteered to drive her home. He stopped at the station and exchanged his police vehicle for his own. On the way to the victim’s house, he pulled over and began kissing and then touching her all over before assaulting her.
On another occasion later that same year, the victim was babysitting at Porter’s home in Hopedale. Porter drove her home, and during the drive, he began to discuss their relationship before assaulting the victim again.
This investigation was carried out by the District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police. Assistant District Attorney Maren Schrader was the prosecutor assigned, and Meaghan McCarthy was the victim-witness advocate.

Does he get his retirement? Tim Brennan got fired because of this man’s abhorrent actions. Seems a bit unfair.
Sentencing has been rescheduled for June 23rd at 3:30 p.m.
