The jury deliberated for approximately two hours before delivering the verdict.
Former Hopkinton Deputy Chief of Police, John “Jay” Porter, was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs after being found guilty of all three counts of felony child rape. He is being held without bail until sentencing on June 18.
And now? Now the accuser isn’t just a “victim” or a “survivor,” she’s a THRIVER!
HopNews would like to point out that a dangerous man would be walking free without this crime being properly handled and reported with acute victim-minded thoughtfulness by then-Sergeant Tim Brennan.

Coverage of this trial throughout has been great. Thanks Paula!
Cheers for justice. This woman needs to put this behind her, heal and move forward.
#thankyoutim
Well done. Justice served. Nothing more egregious than a ‘safety’ officer in a school being guilty of such a crime. Thank you Officer Brennan for your professionalism.
To the woman who was assaulted: I worked there at the time. I don’t know your identity, but I must have known you. I can’t tell you how disturbing this case has been for me because I thought Porter was a good guy who cared about the kids. But he wasn’t. I’m enraged as are other teachers and administrators who left the school. I am *so* proud of you! SO proud of you!
It wasn’t your fault–not one bit of it! And he’s going to jail.
I hope you’ve gotten the help and support you needed. I hope you continue to get support. Hold your head high and recognize that there is an entire community who cares about you. God Bless.
And Tim Brennan: Well done!

Now we all know who should have lost his job and retirement package. Not #thankyoutim, but the HPD Chief’s best friend and convicted rapist. Sad how wrong you all got this.
