This morning, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Hopkinton Fire and Police were called at 7:26 A.M. to the scene of a Hopkinton Public School bus accident on Cedar Street Extension. The Fire Department dispatched one ambulance and one engine, along with the Chief and his Deputy, with a five-minute response time. The Police dispatched four officers and the Deputy Chief with a three-minute response time. School Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh and School Bus Dispatcher Lynn Webster were on the scene as well.
Thirty-two students and the driver were inside Bus 35 when it crashed into a telephone pole, causing power lines to fall and rest just above the bus’s roof. Fire and Police personnel quickly assessed the situation and determined no life-threatening injuries.
Due to the downed power lines’ proximity to the bus roof, all students were required to remain onboard until the power could be safely de-energized. Eversource was requested to respond immediately to a Priority 1 request.
Eversource arrived and worked to shut down the power. At 8:49 A.M., once the lines were confirmed to be de-energized, students were safely evacuated from the bus and transported via another school bus to Hopkinton Middle School. There, they were evaluated by school nurses and paramedics. Only minor injuries were reported, if any at all. Students were either released to class or dismissed to their parents, depending on individual preference.
The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Cedar Street Extension remains closed as Eversource works to replace the pole and restore power to the area.
