All four Select Board members present at the meeting Tuesday unanimously voted to enter a Project Funding Agreement between the town and the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) for the new Charleswood School.
The Board’s vote allows Chair Brian Herr to sign and authorize the agreement between the town and the MSBA. Town Manager Elaine Lazarus said the agreement allows the town to join the MSBA funding program and receive reimbursements for the new Charleswood School project.
The MSBA has paid cities, towns, and regional school districts a total of $17.7 billion since 2004, according to its website. Lazarus said the town is unsure of the exact amount it will receive for reimbursements, but it is a “significant” amount.
Select Board member Shahidul Mannan said the cost of the project has decreased from $190 million and the town 90% complete with the construction design document. The town can move forward to engage with the MSBA and receive reimbursements.
“With this sign-off … we should be able to start getting the reimbursement,” said Mannan.
