The 2025 Virtual Horribles Parade

GET INVOLVED is the theme of this year’s Virtual Horribles Parade

Three Select “Bored” Members thought they could cancel the Horrible’s Parade by denying access to town insurance, but the spirit and tradition lives on! HopNews, with the help of some of the horrible organizers of parades past, will hold the parade virtually on July 4th.

Individuals, Neighborhoods, Businesses, and Organizations are invited to email photos of their signs and virtual floats to editor@old.hopnews.com by noon on July 3rd. The images and signs will be organized into a video and published at noon on July 4th. Start sending your entries today.

  1. Sad to hear of the cancelation.
I think everyone would like to a more detailed explanation for the decision to deny access to insurance.
This parade has a rich history has been a delight of young and old alike.
I can remember going up to watch the parade in the ’60s. the floats would throw hard candies at the kids and squirt us with water guns. It was also a way to poke fun at some of the more “colorful” residents and our leaders.

  2. If this is the position of our elected town officials to essentially cancel a 100 year old parade intended to be fun then I suggest the same stance for pride parades, the little league parade, and all other parades we may have in town that need to be insured by Hopkinton. You are setting a terrible precedent. Freedom of expression is not allowed in Hopkinton I guess. Seems as though there is no problem in Milford or Westborough or any other town around but we have found a way to create one. Well done elected officials.

  3. Geez, everything becomes political. The fun police are front and center in 3 spots on select board. Grow thicker skin or wear a helmet. Life’s tough.

  4. Add to this the heartless firing of Tim Brennan – beloved and with massive community support. These 2 unrelated actions by the SB share a common element: an ugly spirit that takes dark pleasure in inflicting punishment and pain on the community they were chosen to uphold. The wonderful town of years past is gone indeed. Hopkinton seems to have lost its soul.

  5. I realize this is not a Landlord/Tennent situation; that said – The Hopkinton Select Board violated the spirit of Mass G/L 186, Section 12, and nearly violated the spirit of Mass G/L 186, Section 11 with respect to the 100-year tradition of the Horribles Parade!
