Multiple mutual-aid departments responded to the late-night blaze on March 22.
HOPKINTON — A late-night fire damaged a home on Hayward Street last weekend, displacing its residents and injuring one firefighter.
The Hopkinton Fire Department and Hopkinton Police Department responded to 50 Hayward Street at approximately 11 P.M. on Saturday, March 22. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire conditions at the rear of the residence.
According to the HFD, firefighters brought the fire under control within roughly 30 minutes. The residence sustained heavy damage. No occupants were reported injured. One firefighter sustained a knee injury and was treated on-site.
Red Cross Assisting Displaced Residents
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced residents. The extent of the damage has not been publicly assessed at this time.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A State Police trooper assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal is leading the inquiry.
Mutual Aid From Six Departments
The Hopkinton Fire Department received mutual-aid support from the Ashland, Milford, Southborough, Upton, and Westborough Fire Departments. The Bellingham Fire Department provided ambulance coverage. The Hopedale Fire Department covered the Hopkinton station during the response.
