Mary Ellen Kenney’s Life and Legacy: A Tribute

HOPKINTON – Mary Ellen Kenney (O’Toole), 81, passed peacefully on December 14, 2025, at Metrowest Medical Center of Framingham following a brief illness. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Hannigan) O’Toole. Additionally, she was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert J. Kenney, in 2023.

Mary Ellen was a 1962 graduate of Framingham High School. Following her marriage to Bob, she established a successful real estate career. Then she became a contractor and built homes until her retirement. 

Mary Ellen is survived by her two sons, Sean and Patrick; a grandson, Tyler; two great-granddaughters, Maggie and Riley; her sister, Catherine Brown (Donald); and seven nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael O’Toole. Her daughter, Karen Kenney, also predeceased her. 

The funeral will be held on Friday, December 19, at 9:30 A.M. at the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. John the Evangelist Parish, 20 Church Street. Subsequently, burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, December 18, from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Framingham Heart Study.
